Karen Tan, the founder of Menoplus in Penang, Malaysia, understands the whirlwind of life.
Karen’s story isn’t just about surviving, it’s about thriving. While facing the physical and emotional rollercoaster of menopause, she also shouldered the weight of work and family responsibilities. This demanding period pushed her to a low point but it also became the catalyst for a powerful transformation.
She’s not just juggling a business, but also the joys and challenges of being a “proud mum of 2 independent, humble and kind girls,” all while navigating the complexities of menopause.
Inspired by the impact of Oprah Winfrey, who champions unleashing one’s inner power, Karen found her “aha!” moment when she couldn’t find resources or support related to menopause and perimenopause. She said she was unable to find Asian resources and even joined Western communities online just so she could get support.
She remembers the menopausal problems she faced from itchiness to hot flushes, coupled with frustration and sleepless nights. She crawled out of the darkness by putting herself first, incorporating a healthy balance of jazz music, delicious cuisine, exercise and reading. More importantly, she recognized the need for a supportive community for women going through similar experiences.
Thus, Menoplus.co was born. Karen believes that the platform isn’t just about menopause; it’s about empowering women to navigate life’s complexities with grace and resilience. Karen’s “why” is fueled by the desire to see women flourish, not just through menopause, but in all aspects of their lives.
Karen is optimistic about hopeful about her new venture and mission. She hopes that through her work, she can offer support, encouragement and help to other women who are facing menopause, the very same support that she was searching for when she was undergoing menopause. Through her workshops, she hopes to have more open conversations with women who are going through mid-life.
So if you’re heading towards menopause, this is the episode for you.
