For Episode 2, I spoke to Maresa Ng who is the CEO of The Spark Group Asia based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
When I was thinking of my first guest for the podcast, I immediately thought of her and when I asked her, without hesitation, she said a resounding and enthusiastic yes. I have known Maresa for more than a decade now through our involvement and work with women entrepreneurs and I knew she had a heart like mine – a passion for growing women, leaders and business owners.
Why I wanted to interview Maresa? She had a story that begged to be told. And I shan’t spoil it for you by describing it. You’ll have to listen to find out what her story is.
Maresa is a business growth turnaround specialist and a business intelligence coach who works with business owners to help them work more effectively to obtain better results in their businesses without sacrificing their lives.
Maresa is also the author of two business books – Great Business, Great Life (2018) and Maresa Ng’s Guide To Starting A Business (2014). She is regularly interviewed on national TV and radio and was a columnist for a business magazine for 4 years. Her business also received the SME100 Award for the Fastest Growing SMEs in 2012 in developing and growing SMEs (Small Medium Enterprises) in Malaysia.
This much of what I know about Maresa is true – she teaches from experience as an entrepreneur, author, growth leader and business coach.
She started her coaching business in 2008 and in this episode, Maresa delves deep into how she started especially the part when she said she started with a debt of six figures!
Maresa also openly dissects the mistakes she made in the early days of running her business and talks about the first client she got!
What I particularly treasure is that she also opened up about her insecurities as a coach in the early years.
Maresa also admitted that she was working so hard that her business was running her. She had to re-evaluate her life and her business mid-way because she forgot how to live life. She was literally burnt out from the constant doing. And this is where it gets really interesting. She decided to look at her life and business from another perspective.
