I’ve been asked about this many times by my guests and friends. And today, I’m going to share with you why I chose the imagery of a naked woman riding a ferocious tiger.
Tigers have a special place in my heart. I am born in the year of the Tiger and there’s no better symbolism for courage, strength, power and independence.
Tigers were also what Asian nations were called in the 1990s which is apt since I am reaching out and interviewing women in Asian nations like Malaysia, India, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia, The Philippines, Vietnam and more.
The naked woman is about vulnerability as well as a celebration of her femininity. It’s also about openness and candidness which I am striving for in each of my interviews.
An Indian friend remarked that a woman riding a tiger is the symbol for Durga, a major Indian deity who represents the Divine Feminine.
“Durga is seen as a motherly figure and often depicted as a beautiful woman, riding a lion or tiger, with many arms each carrying a weapon and often defeating demons” (as cited here).
Our demons may not be demons per se but fears, doubts and insecurities including imposter syndrome that besets many women, even successful ones.
I love how very Asian the tiger is and how culturally tigers are revered and feared and yet upheld with respect across the region.
Now you know why I have this as the main symbol of Womenpreneur Asia!
