In this episode of Womenpreneur Asia, I had the pleasure of hearing the inspiring story of Mench Dizon, a Filipina who not only conquered the grueling World Marathon Challenge but also leads the transformative YGG Pilipinas initiative.

Mench’s journey demonstrates how the philosophy of “how you do one thing is how you do everything” can drive success in both personal and professional arenas.

A Marathon A Day For 7 Days On 7 Continents

Mench’s achievement in completing the World Marathon Challenge stands as a monumental personal triumph. The challenge requires participants to run seven marathons on seven continents over seven days—an extreme test of endurance, resilience, and determination. For Mench, crossing that final finish line in Miami was not just the culmination of 168 hours of relentless running but a life-affirming moment that reinforced her capacity to tackle seemingly insurmountable challenges.

Reflecting on the experience, Mench shared that it was not just about the physical endurance. The journey taught her about weathering different life climates—both literal, from negative 25-degree temperatures to tropical heat—and metaphorical, in her personal growth. This experience of extensive commitment and focus is mirrored in her professional life as well.

Empowering Filipino Talent through YGG Pilipinas

Professionally, Mench leads YGG Pilipinas aiming to revolutionize the future of work for Filipinos by providing opportunities within the gaming and technology sectors so that Filipinos no longer need to work abroad if they don’t want to.

Her role as Country Head involves fostering gaming communities, orchestrating partnerships, and upskilling members through innovative educational programs under one of her educational initiatives called Metaversity. Mench’s work is focused on ensuring that Filipinos can thrive in the tech world, bringing opportunities home rather than necessitating migration for employment.

Throughout her career, Mench has been driven by a desire to align passion with purpose. Inspired by her husband, whom she cites as a steady and thoughtful partner in this chaotic world, Mench finds herself embracing the challenges and vagaries of entrepreneurship with grace and energy. This partnership not only fosters personal growth but is a fundamental aspect of their joint mission to create meaningful change.

Against all odds, Mench’s belief in seizing opportunities before feeling ready—trusting that readiness will follow—has led her to where she is today. Whether it’s taking on a marathon challenge or embarking on a new career role, Mench exemplifies the power of leaning into discomfort and emerging triumphant.

Appreciation For The Finer Things In Life

On a lighter note, Mench shares her appreciation for the works of David Whyte, which complements her love of wine and emphasizes themes of personal reflection and connection to deeper truths. Whyte’s writings often explore the intersection of human experience, a theme that mirrors Mench’s own life journey and philosophies.

With an eye toward the future, Mench remains dedicated to her dual passions: pushing personal boundaries and uplifting the Filipino community through YGG Pilipinas. She continues to set new goals for herself, including running alongside her son in upcoming races, pursuing educational projects at Metaversity, and expanding her impact in the gaming industry.

Mench Dizon demonstrates that the human body is capable of super human resilience and strength. Bending her personal achievements with her professional missions, Mench continues to inspire others to challenge themselves and embrace the journey of growth and discovery, one step at a time. Through her work, Mench is working to transform the future work landscape for Filipino workers and enabling the next generation to flourish within the country.
